A Couple More Things You Missed & I Learnt in 2009

by Jen on January 3, 2010

Towards the end of 2009 I became domesticated!  Well, I was already domesticated in a cleaning, bathing, toileting kind of way.  But after feeling ashamed (caused by this young lady’s blog) that I couldn’t exactly whip up a storm in the kitchen (chilli con carne was my special…and it’s especially easy!!) I decided to do something about it.  So I made a cake!  My first attempt at a proper bonafied cake was pretty impressive and if I was tweeting at the time I would’ve died to post this!!

It was pretty simple once I’d figured out how to convert the US “cups” into UK “grams” (well, okay, Google did that bit for me).  The cake tin consists of 2 sides – one for the top of the cupcake and the other for the “case” section.  Fill with mixture, cool, tap out and Hey Presto, Bob’s your uncle, you have the beginnings of a fantastically large and deliscious cupcake!!  Cover in pink frosting, decorate with edible butterflies, buy a perspex cake stand and make equally deliscious regular and mini cupckaes for the lower tiers and your sister will be the happiest girl on her birthday (even if it is her 28th birthday!!).

Following this wonderous cake making experience I decided to make truffles and chocolates as gifts (along with buying proper gifts in case I was a rubbish truffle maker!!!) for Christmas.  Clearly truffles and chocolates are a little more complicated than cakes (in my mind anyway).  But the bonus was that truffles contain alcohol, as did my body once the truffles were made!!

The gifts went down fantastically and KPC even got a text from one of his brothers after christmas saying they were in fact “better than sex”.  I’m taking that as a compliment and not an indication that his sex life is less than fantastic!!  The photo is all that was left of around 300 truffles after gifts were made and we had visitors!

I also made the Peppermint Bark from Olivia Rae’s blog, but this went down pretty well and it wasn’t aroung long enough for me to take a photo!!

You may not know this, but there is a 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th person in my relationship with KPC.  These are difficult to complete with as they’re female, over 6ft and very slim.  I used to regularly come home and find one or more of them in my bath or shower and it would make me a little cross, as you may be able to imagine.  See below!

This was a regular occurence until I took things into my own hands and purchased a wonderful item for KPC (I’m not sure he deserved it, but I did!).

See, I’m taking control of my life – starting with baking, organisation and tidiness!!

(IF you’re new here, KPC is my super fantastical boyfriend.  KPC = Kung Pow Cow)
