Ok, so I don’t even know where to start with this! I cannot begin to explain how absolutely ridiculous it is!
Last week we had “the big freeze”. I think it dropped to about -4C and then rained for literally 3 minutes causing the whole of the town I live in to be covered in a sheet of ice. Needless to say I still managed to go shopping!! Very important! On this day there were a reported 107 vehicle accidents reported between 9am – 11am.
Today, my goodness, it’s -6C and snowing (if you follow my Twitter you’ll know that I was very unimpressed when having to walk to work in the snow wearing a jacket (if you can call it that) with ¾-length sleeves (because I’m the least organised person in the world…but I know it and I don’t care too much!).
Anyhoo…back to the point!
I was reading a newspaper at lunch time and let me tell you what it said. With the headline as above (my post title), the story went on about the arctic temperatures, blizzardous conditions, travel chaos, closed airports, cancelled train services , gridlock on snowed over roads, something about a crucible, drivers misery and an arctic blast.
Well, I’ve figured it all out! It’s definitely a conspiracy.
Reasons for Hysteria
There is a possibility this has been caused by the children of the country (as thousands of schools across the UK have closed because of the “sub-zero temperatures” – clearly they just wanted a few snow days).
Or it’s the gas companies!! Watching the news this morning (read: today, I am pretending I’m cultured!) it said there has been the highest increase in gas prices for 10 months due to the high “seasonal demand”, so much so that the National Grid (I don’t really know who they are…seeing as though I thought the National grid was all to do with electricity. I’m good at baking okay? Not natural resources!) has issued gas supply warnings stating there could be a national crisis / shortage of gas. Seriously? I think KPC produced enough gas to fuel a larger country this. So there’s a chance they’re trying to fuel (ha…fuel!) the panic and make people buy more. Yes, I said “buy more”. I am clearly off home to fill up my hundreds of gas canisters…just in case!
Supermarkets have reported a large amount of panic buying from their stores. Antifreeze products, boots and thermal underwear having been flying off the shelves (personally I’d be heading for the sweets / chocolate / biscuits / marshmallows and hot chocolate aisle, so I guess we know who has their priorities in order here!).
Now, I haven’t told you the most important thing yet. The temperature? Well, it’s about -2. Yes a whole -2C!!! Wow, how f-f-f-freezing! Seriously? England has ground to a halt because it’s -2C!! I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anything so silly. Oh yeah, and all this fuss (in my area) is due to the possibility of 6 inches of snow…6 flipping inches! I’ve seen bigger wieners than that!
Update: I work in a hospital….there’s just been an announcement that ALL clinics will be cancelled tomorrow (about 200 of them) will be cancelled tomorrow because of the horrific weather we are clearly not having!
This is all very funny!

Get a jacket on!!!!! And a scarf and some mittens and drink lots of hot tea! Stay warm my friend!
Haha, I had all that on and more!!
I can’t imagine being that cold at all. I’m that lousy. I sure want the change of weather once in a while.
Anyhoo, Jen, Cheryl is nominated for 20sb featured blogger. Have you voted for her? It’s at http://www.20sb.net/forum/topics/featured-blogger-for-february?id=826191%3ATopic%3A371413&page=4#comments we need your help
Haha, are you campaigning missy?? I voted for Cheryl, of course!! Can you imagine if it did snow in Jakarta?? How strange would it be!?
I feel your pain – and you’re so right. It’s definitely the kids. We didn’t get snow days when I was at school (that makes me sound older than I am) – this generation is obviously more organised. In a militant, weather-affecting way.
I’m changing my opinion, I’m slowly convincing myself it’s actually the parents’ fault – who have to stay off work when their kids are off school!! There’s only 2 of us in my department today, the rest have children and are off because all of the schools are closed! This seems very unfair!
You’re back!! I’ve missed you. I think I’m back too..though I haven’t actually posted yet. I need to send you a fb message soon and catch you up on some gossip..which I fully intend to do ASAP!!
You’re coming back??? How exciting! Teatales or not teatales? I shall be sure to check FB and if there is no message I will in fact hunt you down! x
The weather is ridiculous isn’t it? I think we have it slightly better in scotland, ironically, but it’s still so inconvenient. I’ve been waiting for an Asda delivery for two days now due to the bad weather – such a pain!
Oh no!! Let’s hope you don’t die of starvation (or worse, run out of toilet roll) before they come!!! i cannot believe the hysteria that has come from a tiny (here anyway) bit of snow!!
