Do you know what I hate? I hate it when someone calls you at work, you do your absolute best to fulfil their dreams do exactly what they ask or give the answers their looking for, but at the end of the call they ask for your name!
I don’t know why but it really grates me! It’s like they don’t believe you or they’re just expecting you to slip-up. If they have your name they have the keys to the golden gates or something.
I don’t actually think I’ve ever asked for someone name when I’ve been phoning a company about something. The other week I was having hideous / soul destroying issues with my wireless. So I called my provider and was on the phone for nearly 2 hours! Yes, I really did hang on that long! At the end of the call my problem wasn’t fixed, and still isn’t fixed (it’s taking roughly an hour to comment to the internet – so if I post just take into consideration the amount of effort and dedication that has take, and if my post lacks substance or quality it’s probably because I’ve done it in 5 minutes at work or the internet cut out! Damn O2!!).
Anyway, my point, I didn’t take the call handlers name. My problem isn’t solved, but I didn’t take his name. Why, you ask? Well, probably because I’m lazy, but actually I know that he tried to fix my problem (that or by the time we were over 90 minutes he only had half an hour left to work, yes, so he just wanted it to sound like he was helping when actually he was just passing the time). But he was polite, helpful, asked my name, where I lived, asked if I used Facebook and at one point I actually thought he was going to ask me out. It’s ok though, he lives a long way from me (phew!).
He was friendly anyway. So, even though he didn’t solve my problem I appreciated that he took the time to try and help (even if he did make me miss American Idol, force me to run from one room in my house to another and uninstall and reinstall a programme 3 times!).
Actually, I think I should’ve asked his name. That was a lot of work for me to be doing just so he could stalk me on Facebook!
I’m calm now (only because Mercedes from Glee is on the radio singing Bust Your Windows!). *Le sigh* (swoon swoon) Mr Shoe.
Anyhoo, people need to stop asking my name when they call me! I’m polite, helpful, friendly and I try my hardest to help (in 90% of cases I get it right!)…stop making me feel like you’re going to pop back up and quote me!

Yes! When I worked at a call centre, I got this question all the time and I hated it! And, for some reason, we weren’t allowed to give a fake name..all of our calls were monitored. Terrible!

Ha, yes, I know exactly what you mean! Of course, maybe they want to know because you’ve been really helpful! (That’s what I like to tell myself anyway…)
Yeah.. so I would suck if I worked at a call center…
I think I would actually die if I worked in a call centre! I’d also be really useless….leading to possibly someone murdering me…leading to death again!
I guess my window is going to be get busted and I just think I lost a reader, because I TOTALLY do this.
My mom actually ingrained this in me, and honestly, it’s become SO helpful. Usually, I ask for a person’s name, not because I don’t think they were helpful, but in case anything should happen and I need to call back, they ALWAYS ask “do you know who helped you before?” and then I’m assuming some sort of file will get brought up. I’ve been asked “do you know who helped u before?” soooo many times by call centers that they’ve ingrained in me to always ask for a name. So really, it’s not my fault, it’s the call centers
don’t hate me.

Haha! Well luckily I don’t work in a call centre so I guess you’re ok! It just grates because I have a phone number at work, it’s my number and no-one else…so basically if you call it you’re going to get me! No need to ask my name. It’s not like you get a different person every time….so it does feel a bit threatening. I think I was having a bad day / week!
