There’s No “I” in Team, But There is a “Me”

by Jen on June 12, 2009

(Just so you know…I think I’ve fixed comments for the time being, but unfortunately I got nowhere with the paragraph thing.  Paragraphs are my aim for the night!!  It’s not that I’ve been lazy and not pressed the return button enough, it’s that the bare bones of my theme/layout suck!  In my “write post” box, the posts look beautifully spaced out…then it all goes bad at “publish” time!)

The Evil Woman from Work – I wasn’t going to write about her, but I thought it might explain some of my deflatedness of late!

I should’ve known you were a difficult cookie when, on your very first day at work, you swapped your desk with another belonging to a consultant.  Not a good start I’d say.  You are not as important as a doctor, I thought that would be obvious.

When “Sharing” someone elses printer do not start making demands on that person (this person isn’t me).  When this person moves their printer to make life slightly easier for themselves, and no more difficult for you, don’t thrown your toys from your pram and call said person a bully.  Really?  A bully?  Furthermore, don’t try and to drag me into your pathetic argument and then shout at me when I don’t agree with you.

When you lie about your contracted hours be prepared to be found out.  Everyone would work 8:30 – 4:30 if they could, you aren’t special enough for that kind of preferential treatment missy!  But also, seeing as though you’ve never arrived at work before 9am I struggle to understand how this apparent agreement works!?  Do people know you’re being paid for hours you aren’t at work?

(This is a good one!) When someone is on leave it is fair enough to borrow their chair (but don’t adjust it, that person has to sit on that chair roughly 8 hours a day!).  When said person returns to work they are perfectly within their rights to reclaim their chair upon arrival – you only borrowed it.  Now, when said person leaves the office to go to the toilet DO NOT go into their offices and take the chair back.  What’s that all about!?  When confronted, do not lie and tell them that “my manager said I could have this chair” when said manager has been on leave for a week!  Is this really worth arguing over?  It isn’t your chair.  Back off!

Through all this I said nothing.  I had said work colleagues phone for a minimum of 4 hours a day and did a large amount of her work.  Until one day (Tuesday) I’d had enough….

Tuesday

Don’t be surprised that 2 months of being taken advantage of is about my limit.  When I politely tell you I am unable to do your work for you anymore, due to having a tonne of my own, I do not expect you to have a go at me and make me cry.  Really, are you a grown-up or a 5 year old?  I mean, you look like a 5 year old and actually talk like one too – seriously, my name is not “jen-ben” and it’s “milk” not “milkies”.  Anyhoo, it isn’t my job to do your work…that’s your job.  Did you not realise?

Furthermore, do not storm out of my office (in fact, don’t even come in my office!) mid argument.  Then come back 10 minutes later and claim to have discussed the issue with our boss and she said it should go your way.  Again, another of your lies will be found out when it’s discovered said manager was in a meeting all afternoon.

Wednesday

When, the following day, you’re still throwing a strop because you are completely unable to see anything from someone elses point of view, don’t come in to work with the sole intention of upsetting me two days in a row.  I wish I had a tape recorder in my desk!  I am well aware that you’re meant to work as a team at work (erm, did you forget I’ve been helping you, when I didn’t have to, for the past 2 months??) so don’t get aggressive and tell me I should be working as part of the team and not be so selfish and then call me a bully because I ask you to leave my office!  You’re a joke, and possibly a nut-job too!  The bullying thing is getting old now.  You can’t accuse people of bullying just because you can’t get your own way.

Last Night

When the person I’ve work alongside the closest with (for 5 years) and get on with extremely well is going on leave for 2 weeks, it would probably be best if, when you went to hug and kiss her goodbye and she pulled away, you should probably just back off and not go on about how you’re going to miss her etc etc.

A footnote to jekyll & hyde woman – I also do not wish to listen to your 20-30 personal calls to your husband and son.  I do not happen to care whether you (16 year old) son has eaten his sandwiches…every-freaking-day!

Now, put all this into the context of someone who is currently on a temporary contract (6 months), has only been here 3 months and has already had 4 complaints (from separate incidents) made against her!!  Whereas I have been here 5 years and have never had a bad word said about me (that I know of!).

I’m a pretty easy going person and have NEVER had an argument (other than with my dad!) before!!!

Want more like this??

@ JPP – I did feel strangely better for it actually! I don’t usually talk (to anyone) about that kind of stuff because I just get wound up because there’s nothing I can do about it. But writing it down and actually reading it made me realise how absolutely ridiculous she is!! So glad the weekend finally arrived!!!

@ Lady Jane – I’m slowly realising some people are just plain crazy!! She seriously cannot for a second comprehend how wrong she is to think she can treat people how she does….and it’s all so childish!!! I thought being the youngest at my work I was meant to be the childish one!!
